Clever (2025)
This album represents some of my earliest work, dating back to 1984. The song Clever was originally “released” that year on a Vancouver compilation cassette. At the time, I was working under the name Crushed Music. No one made any money from it—it was just about getting our music out there for promotion.
The entire album was originally recorded in 1984 on a home studio 4-track reel-to-reel tape machine, using a Yamaha MSX computer (similar to a Commodore 128 but with MIDI capabilities—this was long before DAWs, and it functioned more like a basic MIDI controller), a Roland Juno synthesizer, a basic drum machine, and a Gibson guitar run through a small amp with lots of effects pedals. These pedals were also used creatively on other components, since built-in effects weren't available like they are today.
The recordings were digitized in the late ’90s in a very rudimentary way, just to preserve what was on tape before it deteriorated further. At the time, the cost of studio mixing and production was beyond my reach—I had a young family to support—so the music was shelved, and virtually lost. It finally saw proper production in 2024.
